After bare metal restore in UEFI may have different partition sizes

Summary

If you restore an image backed up by volume, the partition size may change slightly.

In the following example, [Recovery, EFI, C drive] are backup on a volume unit.
E drive does not backup.

- Partition layout before restore

PartitionNumber DriveLetter Offset Size Type
--------------- ----------- ------ ---- ----
1 1048576 450 MB Recovery
2 472907776 100 MB System
3 577765376 16 MB Reserved
4 C 594542592 27.45 GB Basic
5 E 30063722496 2 GB Basic

- Partition layout after restore

PartitionNumber DriveLetter Offset Size Type
--------------- ----------- ------ ---- ----
1 1048576 128 MB Reserved
2 135266304 450 MB Recovery
3 607125504 100 MB System
4 C 711983104 27.45 GB Basic

- Partition layout after format unallocated space

PartitionNumber DriveLetter Offset Size Type
--------------- ----------- ------ ---- ----
1 1048576 128 MB Reserved
2 135266304 450 MB Recovery
3 607125504 100 MB System
4 C 711983104 27.45 GB Basic
5 E 30181163008 1.89 GB Basic

In this way, E drive has decreased 0.11GB.

Cause

In the UEFI, the "System Reserved"partition is a hidden partition and cannot be backup on a volume unit.
Even in Disk Management, the "System Reserved"partition can not be displayed and it does not seem to exist.
When restoring, AIP will create a "system reserved" partition with 128MB.
* It is a Known issue of AIP2018SP2M1 or earlier version.

Therefore, the unallocated area becomes small.
* On Windows Server 2016 / Windows 10, the system reserved space is 16MB by default.
* This problem does not occur in BIOS.

Workaround

1) If you want to restore to the same partition size, please backup select the disk unit or select the all volumes.
2) This issue of this size shift was fixed in AIP2018SP2M2. Please upgrade.
* Please use the WinPE as the Boot Environment to restore. In CentOSBE, bare metal restoration of UEFI is not possible.

Target Products

- ActiveImage Protector 2018SP2M1 (5.1.1.5036) or earlier version
